OpenAI – API upgrades

Yesterday (Wednesday 13/06) OpenAI announced updates to the GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 APIs. More specifically:

  • Function calling for GPT-3.5 Turbo and GPT-4 for Chat Completions. By describing functions in prompts, the model can output a JSON object containing arguments to call these functions based on user input → ideal for integrations with other tools or APIs. Here is the official documentation.
  • Cost reduction:
    • 25% for input tokens for GPT-3.5 Turbo
    • 75% for embedding models
  • Larger context for GPT-3.5 Turbo, 16k instead of the 4k it was until now.

It is a major upgrade for those who are leveraging OpenAI models to build their own apps!

MusicGen by Meta

Another AI tool from Meta. This week he gave us MusicGen, which allows us with a simple description to generate music. It seems to be a clear answer to MusicLM, which Google released recently. But unlike MusicLM, MusicGen is much easier to use and doesn’t need a specific setup.

It helps you to go from 2D video (even videos shot with your mobile phone is enough) to 3D virtual assets. It is a gamechanger for animators, game developers, filmmakers and artists in general, as it saves them infinite time from drawing 3D models for their projects.

AI Insider 📰

  1. Runway released Gen 2 for everyone. The company’s new model allows you to create videos simply with a text prompt! Logically in the next few months more updates to Gen 2 will come, as now the results are often grainy and with a very slow framerate. Below is a presentation of Gen 2 and a mini tutorial.
  2. LinkedIn is integrating an AI copywriter suggestor into Campaign Manager to help marketers write ads.
  3. Mark Zuckerberg announced that a number of AI features will be added to Facebook and Instagram, including text, image and video generators.
  4. Clipdrop released Uncrop, which allows you to change the ratio of any image by generating the background. Example:
  5. In an interview, Ed East explains how Billion Dollar Boy, a global influencer agency, uses AI to boost its creator platform.

Learning Bytes 🧐

  1. The UK government now has access to the source code of the AI models of Google DeepMind, OpenAI, and Anthropic.
The reason? It wants to explore the potential and risks around these models, with Sunak expressing enthusiasm for how they could transform the health and education sectors. The UK wants to become a global leader in the AI legislation piece, so it is holding a global summit on the AI safety piece in the autumn.
  2. Remember “Human or Not?” the social Turing game we told you about in issue 10? The results of the survey from AI lab AI21 were published and it seems that the users who participated were able to successfully identify chatbots 60% of the time. Users tried various strategies, but it seems that those who made complex or illegal requests had the most success (65%).
  3. Municipal authorities in Yokosuka, (Japan), use ChatGPT to do file summaries and improve their work efficiency.
